Electric Motorcycle Savings? Here’s How Much You Can Get

Are you considering shifting to a different form of commute? Here’s how electric motorcycle savings you can get.

When you think about shifting to an economical way of commuting, you immediately think about something that doesn’t involve fuel. Rightfully so, as fuel costs are highly volatile, making it hard to plan out your budget, mainly if you go on long rides quite frequently. The most plausible solution is to go for an electric bike. But, how much electric motorcycles savings do you really get? Let’s dive into it.

Electric Motorcycle Savings

Cutting Down on Fuel Costs

As mentioned, one of the major areas you’ll save money is by limiting your fuel consumption. A typical gas-powered car can burn up to half-gallon of fuel per hour while on idle. With the price of gasoline in the US costing up to $3 per gallon, the cost can add up to a few dollars a week. An average consumer would typically spend a little over US$2,000 annually for gasoline and motor oil expenses. When you drive an electric vehicle, you can remove fuel costs from your budget. Instead, you only have to set aside roughly $0.01 per mile for electricity costs to charge your batteries.

Technological advances have allowed Evoke Motorcycles’ Battery Management System (BMS) to charge within 15 minutes. Using your electric bike for your everyday commute can easily save you more than US$600 annually.

While it may be more expensive to buy an electric motorcycle , the fuel savings you get can easily make up for the difference.

Reducing Maintenance Costs

One of the general misconceptions about electric motorcycles is it’s expensive to maintain. In reality, however, is that it needs lesser maintenance compared to a gas-powered one. Aside from the regular washing to prevent dirt and grime from seeping into the engine and battery system, you only have to do a periodic inspection to check if all electricals are working properly.

You can do most of these check-ups on your own, such as checking the tires and inspecting the turn signals, lights, and horns. For app and software updates, you can simply download the latest version and apply it on your bike.

Additionally, you don’t have to spend on other things to keep internal combustion engines working, such as exhaust, spark plugs, oils, and other components. So, if you think about it, you’re actually spending less on maintenance costs, which can be probably around US$300 per year. A regular car can cost you up to US$0.09 per mile . So, if you drive up to 10,000 to 20,000 miles per year, you need to budget at least US$900 to US$1,800 annually.

When it comes to battery life, you can expect a lithium battery to serve you at least two to four years, provided it is well-maintained. Take note that even an unused lithium battery can lose its capacity over time.

Saving The Earth

Perhaps one of the best “saving” electric motorcycles can provide is saving the Earth. The world faces serious environmental problems, such as air pollution, waste disposal, global warming, and climate change. Don’t we want to make a better world by contributing fewer carbon emissions? If you think about it—how nice could it be to ride your bike and feel the wind knowing you did your share in protecting the environment?

In terms of automotive there may be a handful of principles that determine the overall form and componentry present on a vehicle. Inescapable is physics, aspirational is performance but as another 20th century icon dictated, there's no escaping the bottom line and in manufacturing that means a need to establish and maintain a lean operational footprint.
