battery health

Your e-motorcycle’s lifespan depends on how long you can keep its battery healthy. It is the most important part of your vehicle as it is the source of power that makes the motor function and channels the energy through all your e-motorcycle’s components. You must maintain your battery properly to keep it functioning correctly. It’s also critical that your bike will not fail during your ride. Here are some tips to prolong your e-motorcycle’s battery health.

Recharge Properly

If you are a new user of an e-motorcycle, you must know the process of charging the battery. The safest procedure to charge your battery is to initially connect the charger to the battery pack before plugging it into the electrical outlet. This is the proper way of connecting to an electrical outlet to charge your battery, preventing arcing.

Electrical arcing is the event where electricity jumps from one connection to another, which can cause a fire inside your home. Arcing causes heat in the insulations around the wires and can reach any wood surface in your home that will cause disastrous fire. You must follow the right procedure in charging your battery to avoid deadly fire and protect your battery.

The Charging Environment

When charging your e-motorcycle’s battery, you need a dry, temperate, and clean area. Try to avoid areas that have a damp or cluttered environment. If your ideal place for charging is your garage, make sure that it is clean and free from obstructions to prevent any accidents. Ensure that your electrical source does not have any issues that can affect the power source for charging your e-motorcycle’s battery.

Best Time to Charge

If you want the full potential of your e-motorcycle, you should charge it right before your scheduled ride. You also need to let your e-motorcycle cool down at least 30 minutes after your ride before you start charging. It is also essential to always check your voltage meter on your LCD before you ride out.

Set a Timer

One of the most efficient ways of charging your battery is to set a timer to ensure you won’t forget to unplug it from your power source. You can purchase an outlet timer at any hardware store, which can help you prevent overcharging the battery. Once the alarm sets off, check if your battery is fully charged and don’t forget to unplug the charger from the outlet then the charger from your battery.

Hibernate

The winter season will force you to store your e-motorcycle for a while. You must keep your battery at the correct charge level during hibernation. Maintain at least 50% capacity, and regularly check your battery because it will self-discharge over time when not in use.

E-motorcycles are fun to use, and it is an ideal travel vehicle for your daily schedule. While travelling with your electric motorcycle, ensure that you keep your bike secured when leaving it in a parking slot. It is also best that you park your e-bike in a covered parking slot to prevent it from getting wet in case it rains. Make sure that you lock your front wheel and all the compartments to prevent theft. You don’t want your battery to get stolen because it is expensive to replace.

Taking care of your electric motorcycle’s battery will give you more benefits as you make its life longer. These helpful tips will help you avoid range loss and increase more riding miles. You won’t have to worry about your long rides knowing that your bike has good battery health.
