Mak received his Ph.D. (Pharmaceutics) from the University of Minnesota in 1982. Since then, he commenced work at Pfizer, Inc. inGroton-New London Connecticut for 28 consecutive years. He opted for an early retirement in 2010; he was a Director, Portfolio Management & also served as a V.P. of APAG Colleague Resource Group (CRG).
During his career at Pfizer, he was responsible for Drug Delivery Technology Assessment function involving external ‘Drug Delivery’ technologies. Pfizer Global R&D specifically includes Solids R&D, Drug Product formulation/ Dosage Form Development/ Drug Delivery development, Clinical Trials Supply Manufacturing, Scale-up/TechTransfer & Research Pharmacy functions. He helped create various Pharma R&D Partnerships, JVs, and Collaborations. He also held leadership role within R&D for many years. As a bench Scientist, he had an opportunity to work on many challenging Clinical/commercial formulations such as ZOLOFT Tablets, ZITHROMAX Tablets/ Sachet and many more dosage forms. He also worked on many “Life Cycle Management “projects for Pfizer’s established commercial products. Mak has presented at many professional meetings and has participated in various Panel Discussions/Round Tables around the globe. Since 2010, he has been serving on many Advisory positions an Board of a few companies.
In 2006, US President George W. Bush invited him to accompany him on his trip to India in 2006.
He accompanied Presidents of Pfizer R & D to India on 2 occasions (2007 John LaMattina, 2009 Martin Mackay/ Rod MacKenzie), where he helped Pfizer R & D create Partnerships with Indian Multinational Pharma companies for R & D Collaborations and also represented at the BIOASIA conference in Hyderabad in 2009.
During February 2018, he worked with Mr. Tonino Lamborghini, Chairman, Tonino Lamborghini S.p.A. from Italy in creating Strategic Collaborations in India, working through India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He accompanied Congressman Todd Rokita (R), Indiana, on a Business mission to India in January 2019; where there were many bilateral discussions took place between Indian companies & US Congressman.
Congressman Todd Rokita bestowed Mak with a US “Congressional Honor” in November 2019, which became part of the US Congressional record.
Mak received an Honorary “Doctorate of Science” degree from DYP Bombay University in 2011, in honor of his very successful Pfizer career.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of
NanoViricides, Cardax Pharma & PreveCeutical Medical Inc. & on a Non-Profit organization from NY, ABILITIES Inc.
He is a Strategic Advisor to POLUS Global, a Korean CMO with the capacity & Capability to commercially produce m- RNA and DNA-based vaccines. He is also an Advisor to Global PPE Inc., based in Washington, DC as well as an Advisor to Saama Technologies Company who has AI- based platform to help R & D Centric Pfizer in Clinical Study Management.
